Words from Chris ‘Sheppy’Saini
The wikipedia definition of ‘shephard’ states: A shepherd is a person who tends to, feeds, or guards sheep, especially in flocks.
This describes me well.
I grew up in the thriving metropolis of Cobourg, Ontario, where I honed my skills as an athlete and a high-ranking boy scout. Apart from MadLab School of Fitness, the best job I ever had was working as a counsellor at a Camp in Muskoka for three summers during high school.
I discovered functional fitness in 2006 and immediately fell in love. Having grown up training and playing sports, I found myself thinking, ‘I wish I had found this type of training when I was a University-level athlete.
The silver lining is that that functional fitness will be part of my life until the end of my days. And I plan to share my knowledge and experience for the same term.
Making other people’s lives better is my catalyst. I truly believe that it is in giving that we receive.
Today, I train not only students looking to get fit and improve their lives, but I also have five apprentice coaches working under my tutelage in our coach diploma apprentice program. I have also trained two international apprentice students in the last couple years, who have both returned home and opened their own fitness facilities in their home countries. Sharing my knowledge with these people and watching them grow has been the greatest gift.
Because I have fitness—and the opportunity to share fitness with others everyday—I describe my life as getting progressively better each day. It is amazing to be part of such an awesome community. I’m a very lucky guy.
My coaching style is patient and encouraging, with an emphasis on fairness and honesty. I consider myself a conduit for the method. I take no kudos for my students’ progress: They’re the ones going the work and deserve the kudos. And I believe in practicing what I preach, particularly when it comes to nutrition, mechanics and technique and wellness.
And, of course, it doesn’t hurt to laugh along the way.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a hulk, a senior citizen, and out of shape ex-athlete, or a new mom waiting to get in shape: Your life will get better in every way if you train with me.
