Craig Patterson “Patty”: Head Coach & Owner

After leaving engineering and the corporate lifestyle to become a fitness trainer, my life has been transformed by the community I serve. We have grown from a one man operation and a few clients into a Federally-recognized and provincially accredited vocational school for fitness - the first of its kind. All of the people who work for our company are like family to me, most I have know for many years, some I grew up with, some I worked in engineering with 15 years ago. They are a very special group and I am honoured to be their leader. Our goal is to professionalize the fitness industry. Our business model is designed to give opportunity to those who are bright and passionate about helping others and making a difference in the community, but above all it elevates those who display courage and character in the face of the realities of the free market. Every one of our coaches has been put through the ringer; they are all independent contractors who own their own business, and their character has been shaped by the free market. Our coaches are not paid a salary or an hourly wage; they are paid based on their performance. Our business is a fusion of a co-op and a law firm. Our top coaches earn six figure salaries, competitive with professional salaries, they work less than 35 hours per week and have at least 4 weeks of vacation per year. Why is this good for you and our community? Traditionally in the fitness industry, an average employee works as a personal trainer for 3 to 5 years, then quits and has to find a "real" career because he either doesn't make enough money to ever afford a home and raise a family, or he is burnt out from the demands on his demanding schedule. Once they leave the industry, their knowledge is essentially lost forever. Because of this, there has been a "Brain Drain" in the fitness industry for a long time. We have been working to change that. Our school's system is set up to train and mentor apprentices, so the knowledge they gain is passed to the next generation of coaches. We are also working with other affiliates from around the world, building a system and figuring out larger patterns across the industry in order to keep people motivated and keep them fit for their entire life. This continuity is the key to building excellence across the industry. I am very proud of what we have accomplished so far, and it is just the beginning. My role is to constantly find ways to improve our product and provide opportunity for others in the fitness industry so we can transform the communities we serve into fit, health, and happy places to live. I love my life. Come hang out with us and get fitter than you ever imagined; you will thank yourself for it. :) Patty Patty's Old Bio Circa 2008
image I got into Crossfit in 2004 after a friend from Seattle told me about it. After 10 years of being a mechanical engineer in the corporate world, I was not in very good physical condition. A former competitive athlete, from the time I left University I just couldn't find anything that could get me in shape and keep me motivated. I went to the gym, I did some Yoga, I ran a bit, played some rec hockey, but none of it was very inspiring or got me very fit. After one month of CrossFit, my central nervous system was on fire and I felt like I was on steroids. My hormones were raging and my mind was sharp and clear again - it was incredible. I immediately devoted all of my time and energy to understanding CrossFit and honing my coaching skills. In the past seven years we have learned an incredible amount about how the human body, mind and spirit interact, but more importantly we have learned how to bring average people off the street and give them world class fitness. This fitness transfers over to the rest of their lives, making both of richer in the process. Watching people transform gives me purpose in my life, and I have never been happier or felt more rewarded. Now I see my role as being to pass this same gift along to our coaches and to help grow our magnificent community into something that can have a larger impact on society. Basically what we do could be summed up as "Tough Love". I believe everything in life that is not earned isn't worth a damn thing. I suspect this process of earning your fitness will give you a portal into how life, or maybe nature itself operates, and will transfer over into all areas in your life, thus improving all aspects of your life. image Patty's Certifications: Level III Crossfit Trainer Crossfit Olympic Lifting Certification Crossfit Running and Endurance Certification Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Mcgill University) Online Ministerial Diploma (The Preacher)
