It takes a community to raise Champions

For those of you who did not know CrossFit Vancouver has selected its team for the 2010 CrossFit Games Affiliate Cup. Emily "Eunice" Beers, Rhea "Bimbo" Borkowicz-Stewart and Aimee Mathers will join Mike "The LumberJack" Dahlman, Andrew "Sac" Swartz and Trevor "TBear" Lindwall to compete for Gold in Carson, CA. These superb athletes will sacrifice much of their time, love, blood, sweat and tears to represent Canada's first CrossFit Affiliate. They can't do it without us folks. I urge all of you to help raise these athletes to glory. If you see them working out then cheer them on. If you see them dogging it then get on them. If you see TBear stuffing twinkies in his gourd tackle him. I'd like to send a special thanks out to Ice T and Big Baby who competed for our community at the Regional Qualifier but will not be at the games. You both are real class acts. We got game. image Tuesday's Workout: Warm Up: ABCs Tech: 50 m Sprints x 5 - Recover as needed Workout: 50 Double Unders 10 Burpees 40 Double Unders 10 Burpees 30 Double Unders 10 Burpees 20 Double Unders 10 Burpees 10 Double Unders 10 Burpees Ah Yes, the workout that caused the controversy at the Canada Regional Qualifier. Or was there a controversy? Doing DU when you are totally exhausted is very difficult (as anyone who saw me do the "Nutts" workouts can attest). You can't muscle a double under. You can muscle a deadlift or a wallball, but you can't muscle a double under. They require coordination, accuracy, speed and poise. While I agree they probably do not meet the strict definition of a functional movement, they do offer us the opportunity to practice a different form of work capacity... Which is why everyone is going to do 150 of them under the clock on Tuesday. There will be no substitutions for double unders today. For those of you who do not have them, here is your chance to learn. If there is one thing I know its that duress can improve your ability to learn. 20 minute time limit for the workout. Hugs and Kisses, Shep
