The Method Behind the Training Systems at MadLab School of Fitness

Training vs Exercise.

Which one do you want to be doing?

Training - noun

the action of teaching a person or animal a particular skill or type of behaviour.

Exercise - noun

activity requiring physical effort, carried out especially to sustain or improve health and fitness

If you started at the gym in the last few years, then it is likely that you're biased towards training, as you meet your coach regularly for hybrid personal training sessions.

For those of you who don't have additional personal time scheduled with their coach, this is what tends to happen in those hybrid sessions.

- The coach reviews the do's and don'ts of the movements of focus for the next cycle.
- We address specific needs of the client.
- Provide additional work to be completed before and/or after class to help the client achieve a specific goal.
- Provide information in a clear and thorough way to let the client understand movement hierarchy.
- Address specific areas of restriction and limitation.

All of these things are going to provide you, the client, with a better experience and a better understanding of the hows and whys of the progressions and systems we have in place. Training.

If you are happy doing activity requiring physical effort to sustain or improve health and fitness, that is awesome also.

That being said, regardless of your current membership and personal goals, there is always room to learn and improve.

For those you who may be exercising but are interested in training, we are going to be hosting a seminar about the systems and philosophies we use when programming for the gym in the somewhat near future.

Each client has had exposure to each coach's individual beliefs in group class and during PT's, but sometimes amongst all the chatter, emails and Facebook posts, the message can easily be lost. Our goal is to make that message clear with no additional distractions.

During the seminar we will discuss in detail:

- Why you may not be ready for those "sexy" movements
- How to progress and become ready for those "sexy" movements safely and efficiently
- Why there are prerequisites for each and every movement
- How you can still have fun and learn new skills
- Training vs exercise
- Understanding the difference between training, testing and playing
- How to decide when to train, test or play
- How to get the most out of your time in the gym

More info to come in the coming weeks.
