What Is The Best Way To Cook Bacon?

Bacon! Bacon! Bacon!

I do indeed love it...  With eggs... On a burger... BLT... Just by itself.

So I'm happy to share with you a great article written by Ann Taylor Pittman for TheKitchn.Com

She tried 8 different methods of cooking bacon and rated them on a scale of 1-10.

Criteria included:

  • Texture
  • Cook time
  • Ease of preparation
  • Clean up
  • Appearance

Flavour was held constant by using the same brand of bacon for all methods.  She tested for both regular and thick cut bacon.

Here are the methods she used:

  • Water in skillet
  • Microwave
  • Nonstick skillet
  • Baking on rack with paper towels underneath
  • Air fryer
  • Sous vide
  • Cast iron skillet
  • Baking on parchment paper

She liked the sous vide but of course the time factor and expensive gear was a minus.  Baking on parchment paper won big on the ease of clean up.  Seems the cast iron skillet won the day.  :-)

There was some discussion amongst the different methods that allotted for personal preference in how one likes their bacon. (ie. crunchy vs soft).

Overall I found the article interesting and informative.  I might try that parchment paper method over the holidays.  Read the whole article here.

I quite like website TheKitchn.Com.  It not only has great recipes but lots of great comparative information and much more.  Also great kitchen products information there.  Give it a try!
